Bricks vs Blocks

The skin of your building defines its thermal comfort and structural health. Should you use traditional Red Bricks or modern AAC Blocks? Let's compare.

Red Clay Brick

Est. Cost

₹7 - ₹10 / pc

Traditional luxury homes, smaller loads.

AAC Block

Est. Cost

₹75 - ₹95 / pc

Hot climates (Davanagere) and high-rise villas.

Solid Concrete Block

Est. Cost

₹45 - ₹65 / pc

Fast construction and budget frames.

Fly Ash Brick

Est. Cost

₹6 - ₹9 / pc

Eco-friendly and precise machine-cut walls.

The Climate Factor

Shivamogga (High Rain)

In the high-rainfall Malnad region, **Red Clay Bricks** are often preferred for their natural water-resistance when combined with high-spec plastering. However, poor-quality bricks can absorb moisture leading to flaky walls.

Sturdy Choice: Wire-cut Red Bricks + High Grade Plaster

Davanagere (High Heat)

Davanagere experiences extreme heat. **AAC Blocks (Autoclaved Aerated Concrete)** are the gold standard here. They have tiny air pockets that act as insulation, keeping your interiors 5°C cooler naturally.

Sturdy Choice: AAC Blocks (Thermal Advantage)

How to check
Masonry Quality?

01

The Metaliic Clink

Strike two red bricks together. They should produce a clear, ringing metallic sound. A dull "thud" means poor baking and weakness.

02

The Finger Nail Test

A good brick should not be easily scratched by a fingernail. If the surface crumbles away, the clay is not well-compacted.

03

AAC Edge Check

For AAC blocks, the edges must be perfectly sharp and square. Broken corners mean the block has been handled poorly or has lower density.

Our Expert Advice

Regardless of what you choose, ensure the **mortar joint** is never more than 10-12mm thick. Thick joints lead to settlement cracks. For AAC, we always recommend specific **Thin-Bed Mortars (Adhesives)** instead of traditional cement sand mix.
