The "D" Matters: Ductility
Fe 500

Fe 500D

**Note:** Fe 500D (D = Ductility) allows the steel to bend without breaking. This is why your home stays standing during massive tremors or settlement.

How to check
Steel Quality?
The ISI 1786 Mark
Check every meter of the bar for the ISI (Bureau of Indian Standards) mark and the IS:1786 code. If it’s missing, it’s local junk.
The Bend Test
Bend a bar up to 180 degrees. There should be NO cracks or scales forming on the surface of the bend.
Rib Pattern Check
Ribs should be sharp and uniform (CNC cut). This creates the "grip" with the concrete.

The "Red Oxide" Warning
Slight surface rust (orange) is okay and improves bonding. But **Deep Pitting Rust** (flaky black/brown layers) is dangerous. If the bar is significantly thinner after cleaning, REJECT IT. Rust inside concrete is like cancer for your home.
